SMASH History
In 2009 two neighbouring Waikato farmers, Fran Allcock and Joyce Brown, decided to organise a series of events focussed on smaller herd farmers. They could see that the needs of smaller herd farmers are distinctly different from large herd farmers and that there was an opportunity to develop events that were aimed specifically at smaller herd famers. They decided to start by getting together an enthusiastic group of volunteer farmers to help organise the events, and then enlisted the support of DairyNZ and AgResearch. The formation of the SMASH group and some highly successful conferences were the result.
The feedback from the first series of conferences was overwhelmingly positive and since then the team has gone from strength to strength with many more events planned for the future.
