Creating your Future Farm – Pukehina, February 13th

SKU: N/A Categories: ,

Join us for our visit to Tim and Melanie Cummings’ farm, where they are looking for extra sidelines to add to their dairy farm and kiwifruit orchard.

Branching out

Laura Campbell, Rabobank, will investigate the process you can follow to diversify your business, from: thinking up a good idea, to analysing whether it is feasible, and putting it into action. She will also touch on the characteristics of profitable farmers, and share insights about the current banking climate.

Mastitis management – a changing landscape

With antibiotic resistance looming large as an issue, mastitis management strategies are changing, particularly at drying off. Jane Lacy-Hulbert, DairyNZ, will talk about: identifying the mastitis risk on your farm, the milking machine and its influence on mastitis, practical ways to reduce mastitis, and the latest advice on drying off.

Innovative breeding plans

Many farmers are considering different breeding options, including looking for ways to reduce their bobby numbers. Greg Hamill, LIC, will discuss the breeding options you can consider for next season’s mating e.g. sexed semen, short gestation, beef breeds – what is popular, what you need to consider, and how to make the right choices for your herd.
