Description
Using genetics to create your best herd
In this practical session Ron, who has years of experience as a TOP assessor, and Becky Curry, Geneticist, NZ Animal Evaluation, will demonstrate how to evaluate your herd’s TOP characteristics and other key breeding idexes. They will show how this information can be used to develop breeding goals that suit your farm system and support the development of a high-value, resilient herd. Ron’s current progeny includes Hawthorn Grove Zoltin, the bull that was awarded LIC’s Jersey Genomic Sire of the Year in 2025.
Wearables, are they worth it?
James Allen, CEO, AgFirst, has recently analysed 10 top performing farms who use Halter. He will share a comparison of their results before and after implementing wearables, and the interim results of a study comparing all wearables. Mark Speight, Farm Systems Specialist, DairyNZ, will facilitate this session and include insights from DairyNZ studies that investigated the adoption of new technologies.
Talk to DairyNZ’s boss about your levy
Campbell Parker, CE, DairyNZ, will remind farmers about the importance of participating in the 2026 DairyNZ Levy Vote and how your levy contributes to the current and future profitability of NZ farmers. This is your opportunity to bend the ear of DairyNZ’s boss over lunch!
