Once a day milking
Jamie and Kate introduced OAD last season, and have been impressed by the results. Matamata farmer, Cam Houghton, has also been full season OAD for over five years after using it for his youngstock for many years. They will outline why they shifted to OAD, how they transitioned, how they have benefitted, any challenges they encountered and how they managed them.
Phil runs the DairyNZ OAD discussion group and will talk about the main factors involved in shifting to OAD, and its pros and cons.
Making your mating period short and sweet
Jamie and Kate had a successful breeding season last year, winning Anexa’s Top Reproductive Performance Award, with a 87% 6 week in-calf rate and a 9% empty rate after a 7 week mating period. However, it can be difficult to get good results from a short mating period. Katrina Roberts, Anexa, will delve into the reasons for the Haultains’ success, and will describe the key reproductive indicators, how to assess your performance, and the practical implications of your findings.
