Field day, Spotlight on the System, Tariki, Taranaki, 2nd December

SKU: N/A Categories: ,

Greg and Amanda Bland are our hosts for this field day. They are in their third season of owning their 62 ha farm running 160 cows. During our visit we will find out about the changes they have made and how these have turned out.

Somatic cell count – how low can you go?

The Blands have used a number of strategies to reduce their cell count from 90,000 to 30,000.

Steve Cranefield, Agrihealth, will help us to delve into what they have done, and the secrets to achieving a low somatic cell count in your herd. Also, he will talk about how you can prevent and manage mastitis on your farm, and how to get to the root of a mastitis problem.

Streamlining your shed

Since buying their farm the Blands worked on adapting their systems to improve cow flow, and minimise their labour requirements and time spent in the shed, including putting in automatic teat sprayers.

Josh Wheeler, QCONZ, will talk about possible cost-effective labour-saving strategies, such as MaxT, and technology options to streamline your milking routine.
