Description
Maximising your on-farm feed returns
As Matthew is running a low input system it is critical that his on-farm feed management is spot on. Jarno Sammet, FarmSource, will take us through how we can get the most out of our pasture, effectively managing surpluses (whether there is a place for topping or deferring pasture), and effectively combining pasture with crops to optimally feed your herd throughout the season.
Lessons for us all from wearables data
Matthew has introduced SmaXtec boluses this season and they are already helping him to identify mastitis cases. However, you don’t need to invest in wearables technology to benefit. Krispin Kannan, VetEnt, has been analysing the data wearables produce and he will share what he has discovered, particularly in the area of reproduction. For example, now he has SmaXtec Matthew is going to use all AB this season (no bulls) – what is the data showing, what impact does this approach typically have on repro results? Does using wearables have an impact on its success – LIC will share their data on the outcomes of this management option, and choosing the right sires for this strategy. Matthew is also using AI technology to support his breeding decisions, he will share how that has helped him.
