Animal health – spending wisely

Are you spending your animal health dollar in the right places to get the best returns?

Jess Shelgren, veterinary advisor, will show you how you can analyse your farm data to identify animal health issues and areas for improvement. She will also cover the major animal health areas you should focus your attention on to get the best results.

What to feed, when, and why

Farming sustainably in New Zealand is a challenge given the variability in climate and market forces. To cope, farmers are using a wide variety of feeds, sometimes with little or no knowledge about what they are buying, and the impact it will have on their cows and farm systems. It is important to clearly understand why you are purchasing extra feed, what you hope to achieve with it, and some of the potential benefits and dangers of purchasing feed.

Ian Williams, Pioneer Brand Products, is concerned about how complicated dairy cow nutrition in New Zealand is being made out to be, when in most cases it is really quite simple. He will outline some principles which will help you decide what to feed, when and why.
