Once a day milking
Our hosts, contract milker Kylie Guckert, and farm owners Murray and Elaine Shepherd, have been OAD for several seasons now. They will share their insights about using OAD: why did they make the switch, how did they transition, what were the challenges, how have they benefitted?
How do you make the switch successfully? Kim Robinson, AgFirst, will talk about main factors involved in shifting to OAD, and the pluses and minuses of going OAD in Northland.
Contract milking – both sides of the equation
Taking on the challenge of contract milking is a big step either way, as a contract milker or farm owner. Kim will take you through what you need to consider, and how you can avoid the fishhooks, to build a successful relationship.
Mastitis – getting a grip
SCC and mastitis issues are a real headache for many farmers. Jane Lacy-Hulbert, DairyNZ, will share insights on: identifying the mastitis risk on your farm, the milking machine and its influence on mastitis, practical ways to reduce mastitis, and the latest advice on drying off.
