Milking to suit

Autumn calving

Adam and Taryn will share their reasons for shifting to autumn calving. How are they transitioning, what have the challenges been so far, what are the benefits? Also, Linda Cruickshank will reveal the results from DTT’s research into winter milking.

Variable milking intervals

How have Adam and Taryn set up their milking regime to suit their situation? Paul Edwards will talk about the research DairyNZ is conducting on 3-in-2 milking, the economics of OAD and systems which are best suited to it.

Dialling down the intensity

Dave Clark (former DairyNZ scientist) will delve into why farmers and analysts have reached different conclusions about the economics of intensification. He will also look at the opportunities to de-intensify and the ‘breakthroughs’ needed in a pasture-based system if severe constraints were imposed on feed inputs or stocking rates.
