Description

Pathway to farm ownership

The Woodwards have worked hard to climb the dairy career ladder and have just bought their first farm after sharemilking in Canterbury. They will take us through their progression story. How did they achieve their farm purchase goal?

Growing your business

Nigel McWilliam, MBS Advisors, has a wealth of experience advising farmers throughout their careers. He will talk about how you can develop innovative strategies to grow your business so you can take that next step. He will also touch on the characteristics of profitable farmers, and share insights about the current banking environment and how it may affect your business.

OAD – the nuts and bolts

The switch to once a day milking can seem challenging, but it can be a good time-saving option, as well as delivering other benefits. Claire Phyn, DairyNZ, will talk about the principles behind OAD including:

  • Applications of OAD, including strategic/short-term, part-season and whole season.
  • Potential benefits and costs of different OAD systems.
  • Feeding, reproductive performance, mastitis and SCC, and how heifers respond.
