How low can you go? Grade free
Our host, Tania White, has outstanding BMSCC results (31,180 cells/mL in 2019/20 – the second lowest Fonterra supplier). Steve Cranefield, Agrihealth, will help us to delve into the secrets to her success. Also, he will talk about how you can prevent and manage mastitis on your farm, and how to get to the root of a mastitis problem.
Fleximilking – the ins and outs
Tania went OAD when it became dry last season, and there are other flexible milking options to consider. Paul Edwards, DairyNZ, will outline some of the practicalities of each option. He will also talk about the latest research on 3in2 milking at different stages of lactation and the effect of different 3in2 milking times at peak lactation. This information will help you to identify the options that will best suit your business and make the switch successfully.
Feeding your herd this summer
We are all looking at our feeding policies and the balancing act between home-grown and bought-in feed. Kieran McCahon, DairyNZ, will share some of DairyNZ’s analysis of the costs and returns of feeding supplements and how that information can be used for your summer feed management. He will also talk about the tools you can use to make informed decisions about when to buy in feed or dry off.
