Field Day, Setting Up For Next Season, Otorohanga, Waikato

SKU: N/A Categories: ,

Our hosts, Dan and Michelle Brice, have built a rewarding sharemilking career. Dan came from a non-farming background, started out relief milking, and steadily worked his way up through the industry, while Michelle was raised in a sharemilking family. Together, they achieved third place in the DIA Waikato Sharemilker/Equity Farmer Awards 2013. Following this they were approached to take on a 50:50 sharemilking role, after which they moved to their current location where they continued to sharemilk. What began as one farm has since expanded to two, with a third farm being added next season – all under the same ownership.

Description

Building strong working relationships

Developing and maintaining a successful share or contract milking job is a challenging, multifacted task for both sharefarmers and farm owners. Dan credits much of their success to building strong relationships and maintaining a solid network within the industry. Louise Gibson, Sharefarming Consultants, will talk about how both sharefarmers and farm owners can build a relationship that delivers the results they need, and how to get the most out of each job and avoid fish hooks. Getting your paperwork in order

Getting your paperwork in order

Henry Brown and Mike Whitehead, FMG, will outline aspects to consider when starting a new contract and the individual insurance covers sharefarmers and farm owners need to mitigate their risks.

Making your milking routine hum

How many hours do you spend in the shed each day? Josh Wheeler, QCONZ, will share practical ways you can smarten up your act to benefit you, your cows, and your bottom-line next season. This session will include: actions you can take this winter, possible cost-effective labour-saving strategies, such as MaxT, streamlining your milking routine, and optimising your machinery to improve milking speed.
