Description
Focus on profitability
Mike produces financial results in the top 10% for the region. His 2024/25 production was 450 kg MS/cow and 1457 kg MS/ha. Lizzy Wilding will talk to him about the key management strategies he uses to achieve his results, where he invests money, and the cost control areas he focuses on.
Meeting summer feed demands and the bottom line
Mike uses a combination of pasture, PKE, and maize silage to meet summer feed demands.
James Allen, AgFirst, will explain why aiming for the top 20%, rather than the average, is important. He will outline how this affects your choice of farm system, and how to select the right combination of pasture, crops, and supplements to meet your goals.
Julie Gaukrodger, Barenbrug, and Dot Frey, Ballance, will talk about how to optimise your summer pasture production and manage your pastures so they persist.
Out weed!
How are the weeds looking on your place? Have you got them under control? Weeds like Californian thistle, yellow bristle grass, willow weed, and docks can be a real nuisance, but we have weed experts coming to tell you how to get rid of them!
Paul Addison and Katie Morrison, Nufarm, will talk about: gaining control of weeds in existing pastures, the key strategies to keep weeds out of new grass, and controlling weeds in crops.
